About this design

Halved orange slices, cinnamon sticks and scattered cloves fill the frame in burnt orange, rust and cream against a dark brown ground, like the makings of mulled wine. Three square frames of dark wood, each holding a cut orange cross-section, take the place of the finder squares. Cinnamon bark strips and clove bits carry the dark modules, while pale citrus flesh supplies the light ones. Strong contrast between the deep brown spice and the bright fruit keeps the pattern legible, and fine line detail on the orange segments adds texture.
