About this design

Bold black brush strokes, ink drips and scattered blots form a loose Japanese calligraphy composition on an off-white ground. Three square frames in red, charcoal and rust hold kanji-like characters and small red seal stamps, and they stand in for the finder squares. The swirling strokes and dots carry the modules, and the heavy black against pale paper keeps the pattern clear. A few red washes and tiny hanko stamps add accents without crowding the layout.
