About this design

A Gothic Victorian collage built from black paper cutouts of spires, arched windows and baroque ornaments, set on a torn pale blue sheet. Lit candles stand on an open old book at the bottom, with dark picture frames and newsprint scraps around the edges. Ornate frames and carved gothic facades hide the finder squares, while the many small black cutouts and cream paper pieces carry the dark and light modules. Strong contrast between the black shapes and the pale backdrop keeps the pattern readable, and the warm candle glow gives the scene a haunting focal point.
